Shooting

Target rifle shooting is an activity that many cadets enjoy. Safety is paramount with all ATC activities and shooting is no exception. All cadets are fully trained on a weapon before being allowed to fire for the first time. Staff are also fully trained to ensure that the range is run safely and efficiently. As cadets develop their weapon skills, they can attempt to gain a marksmanship award.

Air Rifle Shooting

Air Rifle Shooting is often used as an introduction to shooting for cadets. Air Rifles, under close supervision, can be fired from 3 positions (prone, kneeling and standing). The distances involved maybe short (5.5m-10m) however there is a lot of skill required.

Rifle Shooting

This is the main form of marksmanship training that a cadet will undertake. Rifle shooting takes place at dedicated shooting ranges usually at a distance of 25m in the prone position only. Cadets have the opportunity to be 'coached' by members of staff or experienced senior cadets in order to improve their shooting skills. For this type of shooting, the ATC uses the No.8 and L98A2 rifles.

Target Rifle Shooting

Target rifle shooting is often shot at distances over 100m using the L81 rifle again in the prone position. The shoot is always coached and is very much a team effort between coach and firer. Can you hit a V bull (centre of target) at 600m? Why not find out?
